50|50 Show: 01-09 (TS-047 to TS-055)

I’m participating in the 2024 50|50 Show by the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica, CA. 50+ artists were chosen to complete 50 works in 50 days. This is the first time I’m making art specifically for an exhibition vs. showing an already-finished piece.

The theme for my 50 works is “Finding Beauty in the Byproducts.” I’m using it as an opportunity to continue my 100 Day Project, 100 Textile Sketches. All pieces will be made with the byproducts of my art: deconstructed garment muslins, leftover dye baths, workshop samples, and thrums.

My pieces must be mounted on 6”x6” MDF boards, so the form factor will change slightly from the others in the series. Those were 8”x8” and matted; these are smaller and wrapped/secured on the boards with a staple gun.

All pieces will be for sale at the exhibition. It opens in early September – I’ll share more information as I have it.

I’m finding these more challenging than my previous pieces. They are nearly half the surface area (36 sqin vs. 64 sqin) and mounting them to the boards creates additional constraints.

Here’s the first set!
