Handwoven color gamp 🌈

Look, I can weave projects not involving indigo! This is an 18 color perle cotton gamp. I think it's going to be my home office blanket.

While the color combinations are interesting, the yarn is so thick that it doesn't "blend" as much as I'd hoped — you can still see each color distinctly. It would be interesting to try another color gamp with thinner yarn.

A couple of comments:

  • I cannot for the life of me weave even squares. My 24 x 24 blocks were about 2" x 2.25" on the loom. I went down to 24 x 22 for the second round of stripes which looks better. Something to investigate for the future.

  • For the first time, I fixed several mistakes on the blanket after I'd taken it off the loom. Some were weaving errors: I missed a few threads due to tension issues and/or poor throwing technique. A few were joins in the yarn that looked gnarly. Normally I'd leave things as is, but someone in my guild held an amazing workshop on fixing weaving mistakes and it made the process much less daunting.

The cats love it, of course. They are huge textile fans and my biggest supporters. 🙃

This yarn is so pretty, and I have a bunch of scraps left over. Coincidentally, I just adopted a rigid heddle loom from a coworker.... I might use it to make a wall hanging.
